Thank you to everyone who attended the “June is Pretty” fashion show! Thank you so much to the lovely ladies who wore my dresses so well last night!! Many, many thanks to Anna Banana for hosting such a beautiful event, and for carrying my clothes at your Pretty Parlor! These summer dresses are cut from patterns that are completely my own designs. To make them, I used some of my favorite vintage fabrics from my collection that I’ve been saving for special spring/summer dress designs. And, they have pockets!! If you would like to own one of these summer dresses, go to Pretty Parlor and buy one! (they cost around $145, and fit a size S/M, but can be adjusted). Contact me and I would be happy to do a complimentary fitting on it, to make it perfect for you. If you like the style, but would like a different color or fabric, also contact me, and I’d love to make you a custom dress.
I am currently busily and happily making dresses for this upcoming fashion event….. at the lovely Pretty Parlor, 119 Summit Ave. E. on Capitol Hill.

Rosemary Wagner was able to capture some beautiful behind the scenes photographs from the preview to the world premiere of Residue 2.0. This was our last event at our first work and show space as Gossamer Collective. We think it was a great success, and are looking forward to showing the costumes and set as an art installation soon. We’ll keep you posted on the details of that, but for now, enjoy the gorgeous photos. There are more on Rosemary’s blog.

Gossamer Collective participates in May Day! May Day! A New Music Marathon with the premiere performance ofResidue 2.0, an extraordinary multimedia experience consisting of music, costumes, and visual art. Residue 2.0 is a one-time, 15 minute exhibition taking place at Town Hall on Saturday, May 1st within the time-frame of 9-10pm.
Inspired by an individual’s internal struggle when faced with suffering and loss, Residue 2.0, a duet for violin and viola, guides the audience through the intricacies of the human psyche and the resiliency of the human spirit. This intense collaboration between composer, performers, and visual artists weaves many different art disciplines together into a haunting tapestry of sound and color.
“The music alone is reason enough to see this performance,” said James Keblas, Director of Seattle’s Office of Film + Music. “combined with the other creative artists and elements, this piece will be extraordinary.”

The entanglement of music, art, and an emotionally gripping theme creates a highly-charged framework for this performance. Within this dynamic framework, Residue 2.0 challenges the audience to view their personal experiences of loss from various angles and, perhaps, to make peace with psychologically devastating events in their own lives.
Composer’s Note:
I have always had a profound interest in the ability of the human mind and spirit to overcome harrowing trauma, andResidue 2.0 is my exploration into the duality of an individual’s personality when faced with such an event. The instrumentalists themselves represent two parts of the same whole, with the violin acting as the outward ‘mask’ each individual wears and the viola representing one’s true self. Throughout the work, the ‘mask’ and the ‘truth’ battle, challenge, support and coerce another, while the entirety of their being attempts to make peace with a psychologically devastating event.
Although the work is deeply personal, the themes of balance, internal struggle and ultimate peace within the individual are universal, and my intent is to provide a score that will inspire visual parallels on stage, thus allowing the audience to transplant their own stories of adversity and triumph into the fabric of the music.
About May Day! May Day! A New Music Marathon
Saturday, May 1st, from 1 pm-1am (May 2nd)
May Day! May Day! is a 12-hour performer-driven celebration of contemporary American music featuring 30 sets by local ensembles and soloists. Performers, and styles, range from Seattle Chamber Players, odeonquartet, Gamelan Pacifica, and the esoterics to elder statesmen like Stuart Dempster and William O. Smith and earlier career artists like Byron au Yong and Garrett Fisher. Music by Seattle composers is encouraged, as are three musically inspirational “themes”: politics, pagan rituals, and calls for help in times of distress.

There will also be music and snacks and just a good time to be had by every one, cozily snuggled up in the Gossamer shop!
The leaves are beginning to turn red and gold, and I am back to work and busily making fall and holiday plans and looking forward to the upcoming events at the Gossamer studio!!
Friends and family are excited and nervous about the new school year, or trying to get one last summer weekend in. My little family (Cam, Lando the cat and I) are cozy in our tiny cabin, and I am loving stopping in to sew whenever I can at my studio at Gossamer! We have now taken down the entire loft and painted the floors in the whole space, front and back, so things are looking better than ever!

I am beginning to invite designers and make gift items for my upcoming holiday gift/trunk show on Saturday, November 28. I just updated my shop with help from Rosemary, who took the beautiful new photos, and Zach, who designs my website. Thank you so much, my talented friends!! You can now browse and easily purchase RU products on-line! If there is a piece of clothing you like, you can also visit us at Gossamer and try it on in person. We are open Tuesday through Saturday, 11 am – 7pm, and by appointment on Sunday and Monday, and also, of course, for our special events.
Happy Indian Summer and have a beautiful beginning to your Autumn!
Thank you NWSource and the Seattle Times for the great write up!
I have a tiny bit of time to sew, and right now I am loving my studio at Gossamer! Here are a few photos of some of my latest summer creations. Please stop by the shop (1406 18th Ave., Seattle, WA), and see the miniature red art show, our selection of unique retails items, and browse my new clothes! I am very grateful to my new, wonderful model, Molly Rose, for posing and to Rosemary for these adorable, beautiful photos!
